BTS member RM will present works from his personal art collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in an exhibition opening Oct. 3.
“RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me” will run through Feb. 7, 2027. It marks the first museum presentation devoted to RM’s collection and SFMOMA’s first collaboration with a K-pop artist.
Approximately 180 works have been selected for the exhibition. About 140 come from RM’s collection, with most being shown in the United States for the first time. The remaining works are drawn from SFMOMA’s holdings.
The exhibition includes works by Korean artists Yun Hyong Keun, Park Rehyun, Chang Ucchin, Kwon Okyon, Kim Yun Shin and Do Sang Bong. These will be displayed alongside pieces by Kim Whanki, Nam June Paik, Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse and Georgia O’Keeffe.
Ceramics, calligraphy, painting and sculpture will trace aspects of Korean art from the sixth century to the present. By placing works from different periods and cultural settings together, the exhibition examines shared subjects including nature, memory and human existence.
RM participated in the selection and organisation of the exhibition with SFMOMA curators América Castillo and Hyoeun Kim. He also wrote exhibition texts and artwork descriptions in Korean and English.
A bilingual audio guide recorded in RM’s voice will be available, while music selected by him will play in the galleries.
RM described the exhibition as his first opportunity to share his collecting practice publicly. His collection places particular emphasis on Korean modern and contemporary artists, including figures who remain relatively unfamiliar outside Korea.
