French photographer Françoise Paviot has been invited to present an installation by the collective Le Tiers Visible at the prestigious Salon PhotoDoc. 2025. The exhibition will feature the collaborative work of three artists—Raphaël Chipault, Gilles Gerbaud, and Laurence Vidil—who have dedicated several years to conducting artistic research on urban spaces, with a particular focus on Mexico City.
The centerpiece of their presentation will be "Grand livre n°6 de Mexico" (The Great Book of Mexico), along with a comprehensive collection of works documenting their ongoing exploration of Mexico City's urban landscape. The artists describe the Mexican capital as an "organic and sensitive city," emphasizing its dynamic and ever-changing character that serves as the perfect subject for their artistic investigation.
The collective's work specifically focuses on Mexico City's Vulcanizadores (Vulcanizers), street-side tire repair workers who represent an integral part of the city's daily life and urban expertise. Through their documentation, Chipault, Gerbaud, and Vidil aim to make the street space tangible for viewers, offering an authentic glimpse into the working lives of these skilled craftsmen who operate in the city's bustling streets.
According to Paviot, the project addresses a fundamental observation about perception and awareness: "Sometimes, by searching too hard for the invisible, we forget what was right before our eyes." The exhibition serves as an invitation for audiences to experience the richness of the visible world, transcending geographical borders while highlighting the fragility and obviousness of everyday urban life.
The Salon PhotoDoc, curated by Charlotte Flossaut, is specifically designed as a platform for independent photographers to showcase their work. This year's event, officially titled "Salon Photo Doc. des photographes indépendants," will run from October 8-11, 2025, at L'Hôtel de l'Industrie, located at 4 place Saint-Germain-des-Près in Paris's 6th arrondissement.
The salon will officially open on October 8, 2025, with a reception scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., providing visitors and art enthusiasts the opportunity to engage directly with the photographers and their groundbreaking urban documentation work.
