A striking residential project in Phu Tho, Vietnam, demonstrates how contemporary architecture can serve as a meaningful gathering place for families reconnecting with their roots. The TuPhuong Second House, designed by atelier huu and completed in 2023, represents a homeowner's desire to return to their hometown after more than two decades of urban life.

The 110-square-meter residence was conceived as a retreat and gathering space for family and friends following the COVID-19 pandemic in Ho Chi Minh City. Lead architect Huu Nguyen, working with technical team member Ngoc Do, designed the house to accommodate the homeowner's wish to create a meaningful space for reunion after years spent pursuing work and life in the city.

The architectural design emphasizes the use of natural materials, particularly wood, which plays a central role in both the structure and aesthetic of the home. Photography by Hiroyuki Oki captures the building's integration with its surroundings and the thoughtful approach to material selection that defines the project.

Located in Phu Tho province, the house serves as more than just a residence – it functions as a symbol of homecoming and family connection. The design reflects the growing trend of urban dwellers seeking to reconnect with their rural origins, particularly in the aftermath of the pandemic when many people reevaluated their living situations and priorities.

The project showcases atelier huu's approach to residential architecture in Vietnam, where traditional concepts of family gathering spaces are reimagined through contemporary design principles. The house stands as an example of how modern Vietnamese architecture can honor cultural values while meeting the evolving needs of families in the 21st century.
