Controversial Fruita Sculpture 'Zafira' Finds New Home at Local Brewery After Downtown Removal

A controversial sculpture that sparked heated debate in Fruita, Colorado, has found a new permanent home at a local brewing company after being removed from its downtown location. The statue, named 'Zafira,' was relocated to Copper Club Brewing Company following its removal from downtown Fruita in late September 2025.

On October 5, artist Pavia Justinian announced that the sculpture had secured its new residence at the brewing establishment. The relocation comes after the artwork generated significant controversy during its time in the downtown area, leading to its eventual removal from public display.

Justinian expressed satisfaction with the new arrangement and praised the brewery's decision to support public art. "I'm happy that the Copper Club stepped up and that they're supporting public art. I'm excited to have Zafira still in Fruita," the artist stated. She acknowledged that many community members had developed an appreciation for the sculpture and wanted it to remain in the area.

The artist emphasized that the private property location offers a solution that addresses previous concerns while still making the artwork accessible to those who wish to view it. "I think a lot of people really liked having her there and want to see her stay, so I'm glad that she can be on private property where, you know, if people don't want to see her, they don't have to come. But all the people who want to see her can come," Justinian explained.

To celebrate the sculpture's new home, an official unveiling ceremony has been scheduled for October 18. This event will mark the beginning of Zafira's new chapter at Copper Club Brewing Company, where it will continue to be available for public viewing on private property, potentially reducing the controversy that surrounded its previous downtown placement.
