The 2023 edition, running from October 4 to October 13, promises a captivating showcase of talent, featuring up-and-coming Korean American film directors and actors, including luminaries like John Cho and Luc Besson. With over 30 events, both big and small, this year's festival is poised to be a cinematic spectacle.

Kicking off the festival is "Because I Hate Korea," adapted from the novel by Chang Kang-myoung. The opening screening on October 4 at the main theater of the Busan Cinema Center will set the stage for a diverse array of films and experiences. One of the festival's highlights is a masterclass event with Kazuo Hara, a renowned Japanese documentary film director known for pushing the boundaries of society through his insightful documentaries.

Gala presentations featuring red carpet events, including "Green Night" by Hong Kong director Shuai Han, "Monster" by Japanese auteur Hirokazu Kore-eda, and "The Beast" by French Canadian director Bertrand Bonello, will captivate audiences from October 5 to 7. Furthermore, the festival offers Actor's House sessions where attendees can engage with Korean cinema's luminaries, such as Song Joong-ki and Youn Yuh-jung.

Noteworthy Open Talk events delve into specific themes and films, including a Korean American Special Session on Korean Diaspora, featuring prominent figures like Steven Yeun and Lee Isaac Chung. Outdoor greetings and special talk sessions with esteemed directors like Lee Chang-dong and Ryusuke Hamaguchi add to the festival's richness.

The grand finale on October 12 will feature the closing film, "The Movie Emperor," a Chinese film starring Andy Lau, marking the end of this cinematic extravaganza. Additionally, in tune with the evolving landscape of film distribution, the festival will host the 2023 Asia Content Awards & Global OTT Awards, recognizing outstanding works presented on streaming platforms.

The Busan International Film Festival 2023 is all set to bring the magic of cinema to audiences, celebrating the art of storytelling and the diversity of talent across the globe.
