T.O.P, a member of the K-pop boy group Big Bang, will not participate in the "dearMoon" mission after the project was canceled on Saturday. The mission, which was to be the world's first civilian trip to the moon, had been scheduled for 2023.
T.O.P was set to join the mission on a rocket developed by SpaceX, the company founded by Elon Musk. The project was led by Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, who announced its cancellation. "It’s unfortunate to announce that ‘dearMoon,’ the first private circum-lunar flight project, will be canceled. We thank everyone who has supported us and apologize to those who have looked forward to this project," Maezawa stated.

In response to the project's cancellation, T.O.P expressed gratitude towards Maezawa on social media, praising the "dearMoon" project as a courageous and extraordinary artistic endeavor.
T.O.P also hinted at a solo music comeback, stating that his experience with the "dearMoon" project has inspired new music. "My body and soul connected with the moon and space has already inspired me to compose a lot of new music, some of which I look forward to sharing soon," he said.
T.O.P debuted with Big Bang in 2006 and departed from YG Entertainment in 2022. He is set to appear in the upcoming Netflix original series "Squid Game 2."
