The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange will host the sixth annual Korea-ASEAN Innovative Culture Forum in Singapore on November 8. The event aims to strengthen bilateral cultural exchange foundations and expand mutual understanding and cooperation between Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations member countries.
The forum will bring together cultural and artistic professionals along with culture industry representatives from 11 countries for comprehensive discussions at the National Gallery Singapore. First launched in 2020, this year's gathering focuses specifically on how artificial intelligence is transforming cultural practices and creative industries across the region.
Four specialized sessions will address different aspects of AI's impact on culture and creativity. The opening session, titled "Practicing Cultural Diversity in the Age of AI," will present case studies demonstrating how cultural diversity can be maintained and reflected in an environment of rapid technological transformation. The second session, "Mobility in the Creative Industries in the Age of AI," will examine how artificial intelligence is driving changes across creative industries and explore how these sectors are adapting to and adopting new technologies.
The third session, "Cultural Literacy in the Age of AI," will focus on building the capabilities of cultural creators and establishing foundations for cooperation through AI literacy education programs. The final session, conducted in partnership with the ASEAN Foundation, will tackle "The Future of AI and Cultural Heritage," where participants will review specific examples of how artificial intelligence has contributed to preserving both tangible and intangible cultural heritage while discussing potential future collaboration opportunities between Korea and ASEAN nations.
Each session will feature experts and cultural professionals from major Korea-ASEAN institutions, including representatives from the Korea National University of Heritage, ASEAN Foundation, ASEAN Secretariat, and National Gallery Singapore. These participants will share their expertise and practical experiences in implementing AI solutions within cultural contexts.
"The development of AI presents new opportunities to expand creativity in culture and arts and industry," stated Yune Yang Su, head of the ministry's International Cultural Affairs and Public Relations Office. "We hope that this forum serves as a catalyst for Korea and ASEAN to jointly create an inclusive cultural ecosystem for the AI era." The forum represents a significant step toward fostering deeper cultural cooperation and technological innovation between Korea and Southeast Asian nations in addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence in the cultural sector.
