Setanta Books Releases 'Collecting Hands' Photography Book by Monaris

Setanta Books has published a new photography collection titled "Collecting Hands" by photographer Monaris, featuring an insightful commentary by Dave Krugman. The book presents a carefully curated series of intimate photographs that capture the essence of human experience through detailed imagery of hands and personal objects.

In his accompanying text, Dave Krugman describes how Monaris reveals entire worlds through carefully cropped photographic frames. The images showcase mysterious and evocative scenes: a small box wrapped in silver foil and bound with string that holds unknown secrets, an unlit cigar paired with a beaded keychain containing keys to an unknown door, and a pinstriped bag filled with whatever the imagination can conjure. Each photograph tells a story through these intimate details.

The collection also captures everyday objects that carry deep personal significance. Krugman's text describes an upturned cane supporting some unseen injury, a battered black umbrella suggesting uncertainty about the day's weather, and a polished black leather shoe, faithful in its purpose with outlines creased by age and use. These images demonstrate Monaris's mastery in both capturing and curating meaningful moments.

According to Krugman, the work taps into an ancient human instinct to recognize and collect patterns, creating a remarkable collection where each image serves as a thread in a larger tapestry. He explains that these are parts of a whole, and through repetition, the story becomes increasingly clear: our hands hold our humanity. This central theme connects all the photographs in the collection.

The hardback book measures 245 x 173 mm and contains 104 pages filled with 95 images. Special features include an 8-page small booklet positioned in the middle of the book, an 8-page gatefold section, two trace paper inserts, and two yellow cut card inserts. These design elements enhance the tactile experience of viewing the photography collection.

Setanta Books is offering a special edition version of "Collecting Hands" with exclusive features for collectors. Each print in this special edition is limited to 20 numbered and stamped copies, personally signed and numbered by Monaris on the verso. The prints are created on high-quality Hahnemühle Pearl paper and measure 24 x 16 cm (9 x 6 inches) with a 0.4-inch white border. More information about the publication is available on the publisher's website at www.setantabooks.com.
