In an industry where longevity is often a rarity, K-pop boy group Teen Top defies the odds as they mark their 13th year since their remarkable debut in 2010. Despite the passage of time, the group's boyish charm and unwavering spirit remain intact, and they have now returned with their latest album, "4Sho," after a hiatus of three years. This comeback holds special significance as it marks their first release as a four-member ensemble and underscores their steadfast commitment to remaining together "for sure."
The past few years have seen significant changes within the group. Members Niel and Changjo bid farewell to their exclusive contracts with TOP Media, leading them to part ways with the company. Additionally, former group leader C.A.P departed in May amidst controversies stemming from a live broadcast with fans. Despite these challenges, Teen Top's unwavering dedication to their fans has served as the driving force behind their latest album, aptly titled "4Sho."
During a press event in Seoul, Chunji, one of the remaining members, shared their resolve, stating, "When we became four, we made a promise to give our best no matter what happens. We didn't consider postponing our comeback because we knew our fans had been eagerly awaiting our return. Through this experience, we have grown closer and worked harder, resulting in an album that surpasses even our own expectations."
Teen Top burst onto the K-pop scene in 2010, captivating audiences with their vivacious energy and infectious dance tracks such as "Rocking," "Miss Right," and "No Perfume For You." With their latest album's lead single, "Hweek," the quartet revitalizes their signature exuberance, delivering a funky summer anthem characterized by addictive melodies and electrifying energy.
Chunji expressed the group's intention behind the track, stating, "'Hweek' embodies Teen Top's cheerful spirit. We hope that listeners can find solace in the song, allowing them to release their daily stresses." Niel added, "Many of our fans are in their 20s or are working professionals. As the summer holiday season approaches, we hope our song can become the soundtrack to their well-deserved vacations."
Amidst a selection of approximately 10 songs considered for the album's title track, "Hweek" emerged as the group's unanimous choice. Changjo remarked, "From the moment we first heard it, we had a strong feeling that it was meant to be ours." Chunji further explained their decision, saying, "While some of our songs have explored darker themes, the public tends to associate us with our brighter and more lively tracks. Hence, we deliberately chose a buoyant tune that everyone can enjoy together as our title song this time."
Notably, Teen Top collaborated once again with the choreographer responsible for their past hits, ensuring the dance routines in their latest release maintain the group's signature style. The album features an accelerated version of "Wheek" and an instrumental rendition of the track. Additionally, two other new songs grace the record: "Next You," an easy-listening alternative pop tune that reflects the group's devotion to their fans, and "Missing You 2023," a reimagined version of their 2013 hit, "Missing You."
As part of their new odyssey, Teen Top is gearing up for their standalone concert, the first in four years, scheduled for July 15-16 at Nodeulseom Live House in Seoul.
