A 14-year-old student from Wilmersdorf has opened his second art exhibition at Canvas Gallery on Goethestraße 83, showcasing an expanded collection that now includes cocktail drawings alongside his signature portraits and bottle still-life paintings. Nikolas Köster, who is already being recognized as Berlin's emerging art star, celebrated the opening of his latest show on Sunday.
The young artist's success story began in May when he held his first exhibition, where all 35 displayed works sold out quickly at 50 euros each. While the relatively modest price point may have contributed to the rapid sales, the proceeds represented a significant windfall for the high school student's savings account. His latest collection continues to feature the cocktail drawings that have become part of his artistic repertoire, though Köster humorously notes that he doesn't actually drink the beverages he depicts.
"Even though I could legally consume alcohol under supervision at 14, I prefer to stick with cola," the artist said with a smile during the exhibition opening. This lighthearted approach reflects the mature yet age-appropriate perspective that characterizes both his personality and his work.
Köster's artistic journey began at the remarkably young age of seven, when he first discovered his passion for drawing. While his classmates spend their free time playing Nintendo games, he dedicates hours to his artwork, developing the skills and dedication that have led to his early commercial success. Despite his unconventional interests for a teenager, he reports no issues with bullying at school.
"They know I'm maybe a bit different and want to be different," Köster explained. "Many of them actually like my pictures." This acceptance from his peers has allowed him to pursue his artistic development without the social pressures that might discourage other young artists from following their creative passions.
Interestingly, the young artist rarely paints friends and family members, preferring to focus on other subjects for his artistic work. The one notable exception was a portrait he created as a birthday gift for his mother, demonstrating that his artistic talents occasionally serve personal as well as commercial purposes. When not drawing, Köster enjoys playing golf with his father, another activity that sets him apart from typical teenage pursuits and reflects his comfort with being "a bit different" from his peers.
