Devsisters, the Seoul-based game publisher renowned for the Cookie Run franchise, has introduced its upcoming 3-dimensional mobile game, "Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures," with the objective of attracting a diverse user base, including families and friends.
In this latest installment, cookies once again engage in running and fighting to ascend the Pancake Tower filled with monsters. While the game can be played individually, the company underscores the significance of the Raid Mode, where groups of four players collaborate to defeat the ultimate boss. Each cookie character possesses unique skill sets, and players can acquire rare items through this cooperative mode.
Devsisters presented the mobile game for the first time at the G-Star 2023 game festival in Busan, emphasizing its nostalgic inspiration from shared childhood gaming experiences.

Bae Hyung-ook, the head developer for the mobile game and CEO of Devsisters' subsidiary Oven Games, stated, "Unlike prior franchises, Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures is a game for families and friends. It doesn’t matter if the players are on different levels since it’s a collaborative action game. Even if a character dies during a battle, it can be resurrected through the healing energy given by other characters."
The scheduled release of the mobile game in the first half of next year is crucial for Devsisters, as the company has reported consecutive operating losses for the past six quarters, including the period from July to September 2023. Earlier this month, the company announced a restructuring plan to reduce costs and accept voluntary retirements.
The primary business model for the new game relies on a loot box system, where players engage in in-game lucky draws to obtain items for character upgrades. Cookie characters and artifacts, which enhance unique powers, can be randomly acquired in the game. Devsisters aims to avoid an excessive loot box system, with ongoing considerations about grouping cookie characters with their artifacts per draw.
Additionally, the game will feature cookie emoticons, distributed for free at designated events, as part of in-game draws. Despite the game's emphasis on collaboration, the head developer ruled out implementing a player versus player (PVP) structure, citing concerns about character abilities and skill set imbalances that might affect the gaming experience.
