U-Know Yunho, one half of the legendary K-pop duo TVXQ, has released his highly anticipated first full-length solo album titled "I-Know," marking a significant milestone in his 22-year career. The album represents a bold artistic statement that deliberately exposes both the polished performer audiences know and the vulnerable artist struggling behind the scenes.
The 10-track album, unveiled on Wednesday, is built around Yunho's long-held concept of "fake & documentary" – a dualistic approach that contrasts his public persona with his private struggles. Often celebrated as a symbol of passion and unwavering optimism throughout his career, Yunho described this project as his most personal work to date. His previous solo release was the EP "Reality Show," which dropped in August 2023.
"I've shown many sides over the past 20 years. But now people seem curious about the artist's own story," Yunho explained at a press conference in Seoul. He elaborated on the album's core philosophy, stating, "If the image they see is the artist U-Know -- the 'fake' -- then the hardships I endure are the 'documentary.' I wanted to combine both, because together they make up who I truly am."
The album features double lead singles "Stretch" and "Body Language," alongside tracks including "Waterfalls," "Leader," "Premium," and "Fever." The structure is particularly innovative – excluding the intro and outro tracks, each song is part of a deliberate pairing where two tracks express one theme from opposing angles. One track reflects the "fake," representing the polished persona seen on stage, while its counterpart mirrors the "documentary," showcasing the unfiltered reality of Jung Yunho behind the performer.
This release marks a historic moment as U-Know's first full-length album in his entire career and his first major project since debuting as a solo artist in 2019. When asked about the timing of this milestone release, U-Know admitted the delay was entirely intentional. "It would have been better to release it earlier, but I felt now was the right time to meet everyone as my true self," he revealed. "People can only empathize when real thoughts and experiences are shared."
Reflecting on his artistic evolution, U-Know opened up about his growth as both a vocalist and performer. "I used to be the member with the fewest singing parts," he recalled candidly. "Over time, my range expanded, and I went through many struggles on stage. I've finally reached a point where I can accept and overcome everything. That's why this moment feels right." This personal revelation highlights the journey from being primarily known as a dancer to establishing himself as a well-rounded artist capable of carrying an entire album.
After more than two decades in the demanding spotlight of the K-pop industry, U-Know credits one essential quality for his longevity and continued motivation: curiosity. "The curiosity that has made me ask -- 'Should I be satisfied here?' or 'Should I try something new?' -- is what led me this far," he explained. "And above all, the energy I get from my fans is my greatest strength." This drive to constantly challenge himself and explore new artistic territories has clearly influenced the conceptual depth of "I-Know," positioning it as both a personal statement and a gift to the fans who have supported his journey.
