Climate Elders Photography Exhibition to Highlight Elderly Impact During COP30 in Brazil

A groundbreaking photography exhibition titled "Climate Elders" will be displayed at the Fidanza Gallery during the upcoming COP30 climate summit, showcasing how climate change disproportionately affects elderly populations worldwide. The exhibition is a collaborative effort between 1in6by2030 and HelpAge International, featuring portraits and testimonies from older adults living in climate-affected regions across more than 21 countries.

An international network of photographers documented these powerful stories through both visual portraits and audio interviews with elderly individuals experiencing the frontlines of climate change. Each photograph is accompanied by personal messages that the elderly participants have addressed directly to world leaders, creating a universal sentiment expressed through deeply individual narratives and experiences.

The exhibition will take place at the Fidanza Gallery, which is part of the Museum of Sacred Art of the Saint Alexander Church, located in the historic center of Belém at Praça Frei Caetano Brandão, s/n Cidade Velha, Belém, Pará, Brazil. Organizers believe this venue during COP30 will provide a timely opportunity to raise awareness within the international community about climate change and its often-overlooked impact on the world's growing elderly population.

The exhibition is scheduled to run through December 31st, after which the entire collection will be donated to the museum. If the museum accepts this donation, the exhibition will become a permanent part of Belém's history, highlighting the city's connection to ongoing discussions about climate change and its human impact.

Climate Elders is part of the larger 1in6by2030 project, a global collaborative initiative that brings together photographers from around the world to put a human face on one of the most significant statistics of our time: by 2030, one in six people worldwide will be over 60 years old. This represents a historic moment for the world, presenting both challenges and immense potential as individuals, societies, and governments face one of the most fundamental demographic changes in human history.

Throughout the years leading up to 2030, photographers from around the globe will continue documenting what life looks like during this historic period. The project will present a series of photographic essays that will give substance to these global issues, bringing human stories and faces to demographic and social challenges that affect communities worldwide.
