Mnet, the popular cable network, revealed on Monday that the highly anticipated second season of its idol audition program, "I-LAND2," is scheduled to air in the first half of 2024. This exciting installment aims to introduce a next-generation K-pop girl group, as confirmed by the network.

In collaboration with WakeOne Entertainment, CJ ENM's in-house entertainment agency, Mnet also commenced the application process for aspiring participants on the same day. Individuals born before January 1, 2011, regardless of nationality, are eligible to apply through the show's official website, with submissions opening today and closing on August 6.

Mnet expressed their dedication to evolving and refining the unique format of "I-LAND2" through extensive effort and time, promising innovative show designs and fresh attempts. Audiences are encouraged to anticipate the program's return and the unveiling of new talent, as conveyed in the network's press release on Monday.

The final contestants selected through "I-LAND2" will make their debut as a girl group under the management of WakeOne Entertainment. The agency boasts a track record of nurturing successful idols who emerged from Mnet's audition programs, including boy band ZeroBaseOne, winners of "Boys Planet," and girl group Kep1er, winners of "Girls Planet 999" (2021).

The inaugural season of "I-LAND," which aired in 2020, witnessed Mnet's collaboration with Belift Lab, an entertainment agency established through a joint venture between CJ ENM and HYBE, resulting in the debut of the popular boy band Enhypen.

The show garnered international recognition by earning a nomination for the 2021 International Emmy Awards in the category of best non-scripted entertainment program.

Since their debut in 2020, Enhypen has achieved global success. The talented boy band recently released their fourth EP, "Dark Blood," on May 22 and has plans for their second world tour, "Fate," with performances at the KSPO Dome in July.

While the sequel, "I-LAND2," was initially teased in 2021 with a call for applicants, subsequent updates were scarce. Speculation arose when Belift Lab launched their own girl group audition show, "R U Next?" in collaboration with JTBC, leading to conjecture about the potential cancellation of "I-LAND2."

As anticipation mounts for the return of "I-LAND" and the emergence of a new girl group, Mnet aims to captivate audiences once again, showcasing the talent and creativity that have solidified their position as a leading force in the realm of idol audition programs.
