A major sculpture exhibition featuring the beloved comic character "The Cat" by Belgian cartoonist Philippe Geluck is coming to Lyon's Parc de la Tête d'Or this fall. The free outdoor exhibition, titled "Le Chat déambule" (The Cat Wanders), will showcase 15 monumental sculptures in the park's Rose Garden area, continuing the exhibition's successful tour after previous installations in Paris and Geneva.
The exhibition will officially open on October 2, 2025, and run through March 1, 2026, giving visitors five months to explore the impressive display. The sculptures, some reaching up to three meters (nearly 10 feet) in height, are described as both "funny and poetic," capturing the philosophical nature of one of the most recognizable characters in comic book history. All sculptures will be installed in the Rose Garden section of the park, making them easily accessible to the public.
Philippe Geluck's "The Cat" character has gained international recognition and is read by millions of readers worldwide. The character is known for its witty philosophical observations and has become one of the most famous animals in comic book literature. The monumental sculptures bring this beloved two-dimensional character into three-dimensional reality, allowing fans and art enthusiasts to interact with the work in an entirely new way.
Following its successful debut on Paris's famous Champs-Élysées, the Lyon installation represents another major stop in the exhibition's tour. The outdoor nature of the display makes it particularly appealing to families and casual visitors, as no admission fee is required to view the sculptures during regular park hours.
In addition to the outdoor exhibition, art enthusiasts will have another opportunity to experience Geluck's work indoors. The Estades Gallery, located in Lyon's 1st arrondissement, will host a complementary exhibition running from October 4 to November 15, 2025. This indoor show will feature a curated selection of the artist's acrylic paintings, original drawings, screen prints, and smaller-scale sculptures, providing a more intimate look at Geluck's artistic process and range.
The dual exhibition format offers visitors both the spectacle of the large-scale outdoor installations and the detailed craftsmanship visible in the smaller indoor works. This comprehensive presentation allows art lovers to fully appreciate the depth and versatility of Geluck's artistic vision, from his iconic comic strips to his ventures into fine art and sculpture.
