A massive and vibrant mural has appeared on the facade of a residential building in the Belles-Portes neighborhood of Hérouville Saint-Clair, near Caen in Calvados, France. The eye-catching artwork has become a symbol representing a local child from the community and stands prominently between the shopping center and the multipurpose hall.
The monumental 9x15 meter artwork was created by manga artist Victor Dermo, a young local resident who lives in both the neighborhood and the broader community. With permission from social housing provider Inolya, Dermo transformed this section of the urban landscape into a striking piece of street art. The mural features a drawing that appears in his manga series, bringing his artistic vision to life on a grand scale.
Dermo completed the impressive work over approximately fifteen days during the summer, collaborating with close friends and associates on the project. The timing coincided with the release of the first volume of his manga series titled "Diamond Little Boy," which explores themes from his childhood and adolescence spent in Hérouville and Caen. The manga serves as a personal reflection of his experiences growing up in these communities.
Beyond simply beautifying the neighborhood and showcasing his artistic talents, the mural serves a promotional purpose for Dermo's upcoming community engagement. The artwork announces the opening of a pop-up store scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025, at L'Atelier in the Belles-Portes neighborhood. The event will run from 2 PM to 11 PM at Place Tikhvine, where Dermo will present his artistic universe and connect with the community.
The November 15th event promises to be a comprehensive cultural experience, featuring both Dermo's manga presentation during the day and a surprise concert planned for the evening. This combination of visual art and live music reflects the artist's commitment to creating multifaceted cultural experiences for his local community, further establishing the connection between his street art and his broader artistic mission.
