Veteran Tactician Tasked with Reviving Team's Performance in K League

Daegu FC, currently sitting one point above last place in the K League, announced the appointment of Park Chang-hyeon as their new head coach on Tuesday. Park, 57, takes over from Choi Won-kwon, who resigned last week in response to the team's slow start to the season.

Prior to joining Daegu FC, Park had been coaching at Hongik University in Seoul since 2017. He is set to make his coaching debut for Daegu FC in their upcoming match against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on Sunday.

Daegu FC has struggled in the early stages of the season, managing only one win in their first eight matches. With seven points, they currently occupy 10th place in the league standings, with Gwangju FC and Daejeon Hana Citizen FC trailing closely behind with six points each. Notably, Daegu FC has scored the fewest goals this season, with just five to their name.

Park brings extensive experience to his new role, having played in the K League from 1989 to 1996 before transitioning to coaching in 1997. He has primarily coached university and high school teams, with a brief stint as an assistant coach for Pohang Steelers from 2008 to 2010, during which he also served as caretaker manager for seven months in the latter part of the 2010 season.

In a statement, Daegu FC expressed confidence in Park's ability to lead the team through their current challenges, citing his 27 years of coaching experience. Park, in turn, expressed his honor at taking over the position and emphasized his commitment to bringing stability to the club and striving for a top-six finish in the league.
