Outstanding Street Art: Must-See Graffiti Locations Across Leipzig

Sayart / Nov 11, 2025

Leipzig has emerged as one of Germany's premier destinations for street art, with vibrant graffiti and murals transforming the eastern German city into an open-air gallery. The diverse street art scene thrives on creativity and artistic freedom, with new works constantly appearing and disappearing across the urban landscape, ranging from simple tags to elaborate large-scale murals.

In the politically charged district of Connewitz in Leipzig's south, artist Uwe Arnold has created a striking mural at Connewitzer Kreuz that serves as both art and political statement. The work, which Arnold titled 'Fight at Connewitzer Kreuz' in a Facebook post, depicts wrestling men surrounding an anti-fascist inscription. The piece replaced an old advertisement that had been covered by a carpet of graffiti from various artists, providing Arnold with the canvas for his fighting figures.

Arnold deliberately leaves the meaning of the struggle ambiguous, noting that while 20 spray artists worked peacefully together on the project, politicians don't get along as well. Local interpretations range from battling real estate sharks to political fights over Connewitz itself, with one of Arnold's preferred interpretations being that they're fighting over Connewitz's capital. The mural may eventually give way to new advertising, raising questions about whether the depicted battle will be resolved by then.

In Leipzig's western district of Schleußig, the Konsum supermarket branch on Könneritzstraße has become home to a major street art project designed and supervised by Robin Zoeffzig. The artist, whose gallery works already hang in the Konsum manager's office, collaborated with colleague DRANQ to develop the concept for the large-scale design. The project took over two weeks to complete, combining fine art with street art techniques.

The Schleußig Konsum project faced significant challenges during its creation, suffering five deliberate acts of vandalism with 'demolition lines' sprayed over the artwork. The most recent attack occurred in late October, just before completion, when left-wing extremist vandals moved through the street. Rather than view these attacks as setbacks, Zoeffzig incorporated them as artistic challenges into the overall work, with support from well-known Leipzig street artists. The wall celebrates not only the artists who had previously worked there but also the neighborhood's history, Gießerstraße, and other renowned Leipzig street art.

In the Alt-Lindenau district of western Leipzig, a mural on Angerstraße carries a tragic backstory. The artwork commemorates Ralph Niese, a Leipzig-born comic artist with an unmistakable style who achieved worldwide recognition before his sudden death at age 37 in 2020. Various artists collaborated with Concrete Candy company to create a wall in his memory, ensuring his hometown would remember his contributions to the art world.

The community artwork reflects Niese's distinctive style, featuring many characters that accompanied him throughout his creative years. Careful observers can spot Ralph Niese himself within the image, surrounded by his fictional characters. The memorial wall was unveiled in 2022, two years after the artist's death, serving as a permanent tribute to his legacy.

The Feinkost cultural center in Südvorstadt offers visitors constantly changing street art displays on its building walls. While the venue hosts Christmas markets in winter and flea markets, concerts, and outdoor cinema in summer, the street art can be enjoyed year-round. Many artists decorate the building's walls with varying degrees of professionalism, though most works disappear quickly according to graffiti artist Lowrong.

Lowrong, working with colleague Duktus, created one of the main pieces on the Feinkost grounds called 'Magic Spot,' which remains untouched by other artists. The artwork emerged spontaneously from their decade-long collaboration, with both artists complementing each other's styles perfectly. Visitors who appreciate this style can find similar works throughout the city, as both artists have left their mark across Leipzig.

Leipzig's artistic diversity extends to its creatively designed S-Bahn stations, frequently designed by the Leipzig Graffiti Association. These stations reflect their specific locations, incorporating local artists who have previously worked in those areas while highlighting each district's unique characteristics. According to Sascha Kittel, board member of the Leipzig Graffiti Association, they don't want to arrive 'like a UFO' but instead plan each station's design concept within their group, incorporating local people and themes.

The implemented projects showcase this local approach: Gohlis station emphasizes nature themes, while Grünau focuses on diversity. Completed projects can be found at Miltitzer Allee, MDR, Olbrichtstraße, and Borsdorf S-Bahn stations, each telling the story of its surrounding neighborhood through artistic expression.

For serious graffiti artists, Leipzig's 'Walls of Fame' hold special significance as legal spaces where they can spray without restrictions. While these walls allow legal graffiti creation, they operate under strict community rules based on respect and recognition. Artists wishing to paint over existing work should demonstrate superior artistic skill compared to their predecessors, making these walls unsuitable for beginners who should seek other practice locations.

These walls offer exceptional viewing experiences for observers, attracting the scene's best artists to showcase their skills through impressive, often large-format works. The Wall of Fame at Antonienbrücke between Kleinzschocher and Grünau exemplifies this excellence, featuring work by the internationally renowned Radicals crew, whose reputation extends far beyond Leipzig's city limits. These spaces represent the pinnacle of Leipzig's street art culture, where technical mastery meets artistic vision in spectacular displays of urban creativity.
