A towering bronze sculpture titled 'The Tree of Knowledge' has been installed on the plaza of the renovated media library in Bayonne, France. The monumental artwork, standing 11 feet 2 inches tall, was erected on Wednesday, October 22, on the new esplanade situated between the cathedral and the newly renovated media library.
The sculpture is the work of artist Zigor, who expressed amusement at seeing his creation positioned prominently on the media library plaza, directly facing the Saint Mary Cathedral. The massive bronze piece represents a significant addition to the cultural landscape of the historic Basque city.
Professional artisans from the Jaizkibel artistic foundry in Irún, Spain, were responsible for the precise installation of the 3.4-meter-high sculpture. The timing of the installation was carefully coordinated to coincide with the grand reopening of the media library, which underwent extensive renovations.
The sculpture was positioned just one day before the official inauguration ceremony of the thoroughly renovated media library facility. Artist Zigor remarked with humor about the permanence of his work, noting that 'In 2,000 years, it will still be there,' emphasizing the enduring nature of the bronze monument that now graces the public space between two of Bayonne's most significant cultural institutions.
