The Korean Cultural Center in Brussels is hosting a comprehensive exhibition titled 'THAT'S KOREA' that showcases both traditional and contemporary Korean crafts from November 21, 2025, through January 23, 2026. The exhibition runs daily from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM and presents a unique blend of centuries-old artisan techniques reinterpreted through modern sensibilities.
The exhibition goes beyond mere preservation of cultural heritage, demonstrating how traditional Korean crafts continue to evolve and flow from the past to the present and into the future through creative contemporary interpretations. This approach highlights the dynamic nature of Korean craft traditions and their ongoing relevance in today's artistic landscape.
Visitors can explore an impressive collection featuring works by 36 artists in total. The exhibition includes 12 designated artisans who are officially recognized for preserving Korea's cultural heritage, alongside 24 contemporary crafts artists who bring fresh perspectives to traditional techniques. The displayed works comprise 22 pieces of traditional crafts spanning 17 different categories and 89 pieces of contemporary crafts across 30 diverse categories.
The exhibition is complemented by various hands-on experiential programs designed to connect tradition and modernity. These interactive opportunities allow visitors to fully experience the depth and beauty of Korean craftwork while actively participating in the creative process. The programs offer a unique experience that celebrates tradition through a contemporary lens, making Korean cultural heritage accessible to international audiences.
Special experiential programs will take place on November 21-22, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The programs include three main activities: a 'THAT'S KOREA' photo zone for memorable pictures, VR kite flying experiences that blend traditional Korean pastimes with modern technology, and hands-on Korean craft workshops that require advance reservations.
The craft workshops offer three distinct activities for participants. The Nubi Master Class focuses on creating a DIY Christmas pouch and runs from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Visitors can also participate in making traditional ornament keyrings during four time slots: 12:00-1:30 PM and 3:00-4:30 PM. Additionally, Hanji wish lamp making sessions are available throughout the day from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with new sessions starting every hour.
Reservations for the workshop programs are required and can be made through Eventbrite at the Korean Cultural Development Fund's booking page. Registration opens on November 4, 2025, at 12:00 PM, allowing interested participants to secure their spots in advance. This exhibition represents a significant cultural exchange opportunity, bringing authentic Korean craftsmanship to European audiences while demonstrating the living, evolving nature of traditional Korean arts.
