The Korean Cultural Center in Washington D.C. will present a free screening of the critically acclaimed Korean film 'The Age of Shadows' (밀정), offering American audiences a chance to experience one of Korea's most celebrated historical thrillers. The event, scheduled for Wednesday, September 10 at 6:00 PM, will take place at the center's location on Massachusetts Avenue and requires advance RSVP registration.

Directed by Kim Jee-woon, 'The Age of Shadows' is set during the turbulent 1920s when Korea was under Japanese colonial rule. The film follows Lee Jung-chool, portrayed by acclaimed actor Song Kang-ho, a Korean who works as a Japanese police officer and receives orders to infiltrate an armed independence movement group. To carry out this dangerous mission, he must approach Kim Woo-jin, played by Gong Yoo, who leads the resistance organization.

The movie explores the complex relationship that develops between these two men who find themselves on opposite sides of history. Despite their conflicting loyalties, they form an unexpected bond while carefully concealing their true intentions from each other. This creates an intricate web of manipulation, betrayal, and counterintelligence operations that drives the film's suspenseful narrative.

'The Age of Shadows' achieved remarkable success both commercially and critically when it was released in 2016. The historical epic managed to please mainstream audiences while earning recognition from film critics and industry professionals. The movie received prestigious honors including the Best Art Design award at the Daejong Film Awards, and both Best Director and Best Actor awards for Song Kang-ho at the BaekSang Arts Awards.

The film's international appeal was further validated through its production and distribution partnership with Warner Bros., which helped bring the movie to global audiences. This collaboration contributed to the film's widespread international acclaim and demonstrated the growing recognition of Korean cinema on the world stage.

The Washington D.C. screening will feature the original Korean dialogue with English subtitles, allowing viewers to experience the authentic performances while following the story. At 140 minutes in length, the film provides an immersive experience into this pivotal period of Korean history. Attendees will also enjoy complimentary snacks during the event, and admission is completely free for those who register in advance through the Korean Cultural Center's RSVP system.
