The Korean Cultural Centre Canada (KCC) has launched a new exhibition celebrating the growing global popularity of Korean webtoons and digital comics. In partnership with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), the cultural center opened "K-Comics World" on September 16, 2025, marking a significant milestone in promoting Korean digital storytelling arts to Canadian audiences.
The exhibition features immersive visual displays and interactive experiences that highlight the unique narratives and artistic styles that have made Korean webtoons a global phenomenon. Visitors can explore the distinctive storytelling techniques and visual aesthetics that set Korean digital comics apart from traditional comic formats, offering an in-depth look into this rapidly expanding medium.
Two major works anchor the exhibition's showcase of Korean webtoon excellence. "My Daughter is a Zombie" by acclaimed artist LEE Yun-chang presents a compelling narrative that has captivated readers worldwide. The exhibition also features "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint," a collaborative masterpiece based on the popular web novel by singNsong, expertly adapted by UMI and beautifully illustrated by Sleepy-C. These selections represent the diversity and creativity that define contemporary Korean webtoon culture.
The month-long exhibition runs through October 15, 2025, at the Korean Cultural Centre Canada, located at 150 Elgin Street 101, Ottawa, Ontario K2P 1L4. The opening reception, held on September 16 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time, brought together cultural enthusiasts, digital art aficionados, and members of the local Korean community to celebrate this unique artistic medium.
This exhibition represents the ongoing efforts by Korean cultural institutions to share the country's innovative digital content with international audiences. As Korean webtoons continue to gain recognition worldwide and influence global digital storytelling trends, exhibitions like K-Comics World serve as important bridges connecting Korean creative content with diverse international communities.
