The Korean Cultural Center in Brazil will host a hands-on printmaking workshop led by renowned South Korean artist Seungyoun Lee on November 16, 2025. The workshop is designed to give participants practical experience with the artistic techniques featured in Lee's creative process, particularly those used in her book "Floresta do mofo dourado" (Golden Mold Forest), which was recently released in Brazil.
The workshop will take place immediately following a talk with the artist, offering attendees a unique opportunity to experience Lee's artistic universe in both theory and practice. Participants will learn about printmaking, an ancient artistic technique that involves creating images from carved or drawn matrices such as wooden blocks or metal plates. Once inked, these matrices are pressed onto paper to transfer the image, allowing for multiple prints to be created.
This technique serves as a natural extension of Lee's work, which explores the cycles of life, death, and regeneration as depicted in "Golden Mold Forest." During the workshop, participants will create their own matrices and prints while experimenting with the relationship between drawing, nature, and transformation. The center recommends that participants also attend the artist talk that precedes the workshop.
Seungyoun Lee is a visual artist who believes deeply in the power of narrative and storytelling. Through her works, she aspires to become what she describes as "a transcriber of colors, an alchemist, or a storyteller." She collects and transforms myths, ancient history, and bizarre or extraordinary accounts that challenge the limits of imagination, as well as stories encountered during her travels around the world.
"Golden Mold Forest" tells the story of little Dourado who, while waiting for his mother outside school on a rainy day, notices a tiny being sprouting from the corner of a step. From that moment, he is transported into a landscape filled with sounds, whispers, and voices that invite him into a forest of imagination and microscopic life forms. The story connects readers to a world of poetic symbiosis full of transformations, where mushrooms and moss dwell.
The workshop is scheduled for Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the classroom on the first floor of the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil, located at Av. Paulista, 460, Bela Vista, São Paulo. The event is free of charge but requires prior registration, and capacity is limited to 15 participants.
Due to the use of knives and sharp tools during the practical activities, participants must be at least 18 years old and legally responsible for themselves. Registration will be conducted through Google Forms, with the link available at https://forms.gle/T4GU1GfBmfAvbbNVA. The registration form will open on November 8 at 10 a.m. and close on November 12 at 11:59 p.m. (Brasília time).
After completing and submitting the form, applicants will receive a copy of their response by email, though this does not guarantee selection for the workshop. Selected participants will receive confirmation directly from the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil on August 13, 2025. Each person may register only once, and multiple applications using different emails will result in disqualification.
