The Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) announced on the 10th that it will participate in the 2024 Craft Trend Fair in collaboration with the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage, the National Intangible Heritage Center, and the Cultural Heritage Foundation. The event, a major craft exhibition, will take place at Coex Hall C in Seoul’s Gangnam District from December 12 to 15.

At the heart of CHA's participation is the K-Craft exhibition, showcasing over 90 traditional craft pieces created under the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Craft Certification initiative. These works, produced by master artisans and inheritors of Korea’s intangible heritage, emphasize the preservation and modern reinterpretation of traditional craft techniques and materials. The exhibition aims to illustrate how traditional craftsmanship can integrate seamlessly into contemporary lifestyles, offering a glimpse into the practical and aesthetic relevance of cultural heritage today.

CHA emphasized that the exhibition provides an opportunity to rediscover the value and utility of traditional Korean crafts in daily life, deepening appreciation for Korea’s cultural identity.

Adding to the event’s allure, the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage will present the 1795 Feast, 2024 Party, an exhibition developed by its traditional design team and graduate students. Inspired by the feasts of the Joseon royal court, the exhibition features 66 innovative products across 21 categories, including 3D-designed vases, modernized candles, and traditional liquor cups, reimagined for contemporary social gatherings.

The National Intangible Heritage Center will also debut 15 products created through its 2024 Traditional Craft Utilization Education Program. These items merge the tactile charm of traditional craftsmanship with modern design sensibilities, broadening the appeal of Korean heritage crafts.

CHA noted its ongoing commitment to raising awareness about the significance of traditional crafts and supporting artisans in expanding their creative and professional opportunities. Through such initiatives, the administration seeks to ensure sustainable development and broader recognition of Korea’s heritage craftsmanship.

The 2024 Craft Trend Fair promises to be a celebration of the rich legacy and modern adaptability of Korean crafts, offering attendees an engaging look at how tradition evolves in harmony with contemporary needs.
