A new book celebrating the world's most unusual and imaginative architecture is set to hit shelves this fall. "Weird Buildings," published by Hoxton Mini Press with text by Imogen Fortes, features more than 100 extraordinary structures that challenge traditional architectural conventions, from whimsical designs to wildly engineered masterpieces.

The collection showcases a diverse range of unconventional buildings from across the globe, including the now-defunct Longaberger basket company's iconic Ohio headquarters, which was designed to resemble a giant wicker basket. Another featured structure is the Casa de Penedo, Portuguese for "boulder house," demonstrating the world's abundance of quirky, fanciful, and genuinely strange architectural creations.

According to the publisher, all the buildings featured in the book push the boundaries of conventional design, whether through playful or provocative approaches. The collection spans from the fluid forms of Zaha Hadid's mountaintop museum to a whimsical teapot-shaped service station, offering readers what the publisher describes as "a playful and inspiring tour of the world's weirdest—and most wonderful—architecture."

Among the notable structures highlighted in the book are several eye-catching examples that demonstrate the range of unconventional architecture. These include the Casa del Acantilado, the distinctive Inntel Hotel, the Teapot Dome Service Station, and the Steel House, each representing different approaches to breaking architectural norms and creating memorable structures.

The book represents a celebration of architects and designers who dare to think outside the box, showcasing how creative vision can transform functional buildings into artistic statements. From fluid, organic forms to buildings shaped like everyday objects, the collection demonstrates the endless possibilities when conventional design rules are set aside in favor of imagination and innovation.

"Weird Buildings" is scheduled for publication on September 4 and is currently available for pre-order through the Colossal Shop. The book promises to serve as both an entertaining visual journey and an inspiring look at how architecture can challenge expectations while still serving practical purposes.
