From November 9 to December 22, 2024, Galerie Zink in Waldkirchen presents "BLOOD," a solo exhibition by Belgian textile artist Klaas Rommelaere. This immersive exhibition transforms the gallery space into a mystical environment, showcasing Rommelaere’s innovative approach to art through textile-based works that delve into the strength and continuity of family bonds.

Born in 1986 in Roeselare, Belgium, Rommelaere draws from his background in fashion to craft deeply personal narratives. His canvases are made of printed fabric, while his sculptures and paintings are meticulously embroidered, braided, and woven. For this exhibition, Rommelaere centers on the kitchen table as a universal symbol of familial connection and shared experience. Through abstract metal sculptures braided with rattan and covered in embroidery, he evokes the intimacy and warmth of family gatherings, while his textile collages narrate the passage of wisdom and tradition across generations.

The gallery has undergone a complete transformation for "BLOOD," creating an atmosphere that enhances the introspective and tactile nature of the works. The subdued lighting and carefully arranged exhibits draw viewers into a reflective experience, amplifying the emotional depth of Rommelaere’s creations. One highlight is his use of embroidered overlays on photographs, juxtaposing the permanence of photography with the labor-intensive delicacy of textiles. These works explore the intersection of memory, identity, and tradition.

The metal sculptures, nearly entirely enshrouded in embroidered textiles, stand out for their intricate craftsmanship and symbolic depth. These pieces represent the resilience and adaptability of family connections, embodying the artist’s theme of intergenerational strength and continuity.

Rommelaere’s exhibition is more than a celebration of family; it is a call to reflect on the legacies we inherit and the traditions we pass on. With "BLOOD," Galerie Zink offers a profound exploration of how art can honor and reimagine heritage in a contemporary context, making this exhibition an unmissable event for anyone engaged with the evolving dialogue between tradition and modernity.
