The management agency for NewJeans, ADOR, has announced its continued commitment to protecting the rights of its five members—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. On December 27, ADOR issued a statement addressing recent legal actions against defamatory and harmful online content targeting the group. This comes as NewJeans faces escalating public and legal challenges, including sudden contract termination and visa complications.
According to ADOR, malicious online posts aimed at tarnishing the reputation of NewJeans have been increasing. These include defamatory remarks, baseless allegations, and offensive content, particularly targeting the members' nationalities and appearances. ADOR emphasized that it has filed complaints with law enforcement agencies based on evidence gathered through its own monitoring and fan-submitted reports. The complaints also cover sexual harassment and the spread of false information.
The agency revealed that some individuals responsible for these offenses have already received fines, while investigations into others are ongoing. ADOR further disclosed that certain individuals involved in creating and distributing manipulated, sexually explicit images of the members have faced criminal charges, with some already convicted in the first round of trials. ADOR reiterated its strict policy of not pursuing settlements or leniency, especially given the group’s underage members, and pledged to continue its legal efforts regardless of the time required.
Adding to the turbulence, NewJeans held a press conference on December 28, during which the group announced its decision to terminate their exclusive contracts with ADOR, despite five years remaining on the agreements. The members have since created separate social media accounts to communicate with fans, signaling a new chapter in their careers outside of ADOR's management.
The contract termination has led to complications for Hanni, whose E-6 (arts and entertainment) visa was tied to her ADOR contract. This development raises concerns about her legal status in South Korea and the potential impact on NewJeans’ ability to continue as a group. ADOR has vowed to address the visa issue, asserting its commitment to ensuring Hanni's legal status is safeguarded.
While the ongoing disputes have cast uncertainty over the group’s future, ADOR remains focused on protecting NewJeans from further harm. The agency urged fans to continue reporting malicious content, highlighting that collective efforts have been instrumental in their legal actions. ADOR also expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from fans and reiterated its dedication to safeguarding the artists' rights.
As NewJeans navigates this tumultuous period, the group’s ability to maintain its artistic and commercial success under new circumstances will be closely watched by fans and industry observers alike.
