From December 1 to December 30, 2024, Yeasung Gallery will host Entanglement (얽힘, 그 무한한 마주침), a solo exhibition by Yoon Hyun Seob. The exhibition delves into the concept of fluid interconnectivity, using water droplets as a central metaphor for the dynamics of human relationships and the infinite possibilities they hold. With a focus on themes of interaction, growth, and transformation, Yoon’s work reflects a profound exploration of connection in both natural and human contexts.
The water droplet, one of nature’s simplest yet most evocative forms, serves as a recurring motif throughout the exhibition. As it flows and shifts shape, the droplet embodies individuality while simultaneously existing as part of a larger, ever-changing system. Drawing from Karen Barad’s theories of “entanglement” and “intra-action” in new materialism, Yoon captures the duality of water droplets: their independent nature and their interconnected existence. Each droplet’s journey mirrors the ways individuals encounter, interact with, and transform through relationships.

Central to the exhibition is the piece Connected Water Droplets, which metaphorically examines the essence of relationships through natural phenomena such as flow, superposition, and diffraction. Just as water droplets merge and form new patterns, individuals expand and reshape their identities through their connections with others. This interaction highlights the transformative power of relationships, which remain fluid and dynamic, growing and evolving.
The meeting of two droplets and the patterns that emerge from their overlap represent both harmony and discord in human relationships. The work challenges the notion that conflict must result in negativity, instead proposing that moments of tension can lead to deeper understanding, cooperation, and growth. The interplay of droplets serves as a visual allegory for the dynamic, ever-changing nature of human connections, emphasizing the symbiotic processes of influence and mutual development.

The exhibition also underscores the organic nature of relationships. Through the metaphor of water, Yoon illustrates how relationships are not fixed entities but fluid, evolving processes. The dynamic motion of water droplets, their merging, and separation, encapsulates the essence of connection as a continuous and reciprocal act. Relationships, like droplets, can create profound new meanings through interaction and provide a platform for empathy, understanding, and deeper emotional resonance.
Yoon’s work bridges the poetic and the scientific, blending metaphorical depth with tangible natural processes. By exploring the interplay of individuality and connection, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on their relationships and the boundless potential for growth and transformation that lies within them. The joy of encountering and being entangled with others is celebrated as a vital, dynamic force shaping both identity and shared experience.
Hosted by Yeasung Gallery, Entanglement runs until December 30, 2024. This thought-provoking exhibition offers an immersive journey into the intricate layers of connection, encouraging visitors to contemplate the infinite possibilities of human relationships and their place within the complex web of interactions that define life.
