PhMuseum Launches Inaugural Annual Publication 'Imperfetto' Featuring Contemporary Photography and Long-Term Visual Projects

Sayart / Nov 19, 2025

PhMuseum has released its first annual publication, titled 'PhMuseum Annual #01 – Imperfetto,' a comprehensive 292-page collection that traces a full year in contemporary photography. The inaugural issue features portfolios, conversations, exhibitions, curatorial focuses, practical toolboxes, and insights from the photography community.

The title 'Imperfetto' draws from the Italian word's dual meaning, referring both to a verb tense that describes ongoing actions in the past and to an adjective describing things that are incomplete or deviating from an ideal state of perfection. Both interpretations apply to the publication's content, which features long-term projects by photographers exploring contemporary issues from a slow, critical perspective. The visual essays included aim not for completion but rather to provide a foundation for conversation and reflection.

The concept of 'Imperfetto' also reflects the nature of this printed publication itself, covering the past 12 months of activities at PhMuseum. The publication was crafted after a summer of intensive planning, writing, and designing, which the editors acknowledge might still contain errors or inconsistencies that they embrace as part of the imperfect process.

The publication features work from more than 60 contributing artists from around the world, including Aaron Schuman, Alejandro Luperca Morales, Alexandra Riba, Alina Cristea, Alba Ruiz Lafuente, Álvaro Muñoz, Akanksha Pandey, Aria Shahrokhshahi, Arnau Blanch Vilageliu, Beatriz de Souza Lima, Camilla de Maffei, Carolina Pimenta, Cédrine Scheidig, Claire Cocano, Claudia Jaguaribe, Czepiel Maciej, Davide Sartori, David De Beyter, Dragan Saric, Edgar Martins, Emma Sarpaniemi, Federico Possati, Francisco Canton, Fujimura Family, Gal Cipreste & Masina Pinheiro, Greta Valente, Hashem Shakeri, Ilias Lois, Jan A.
