농업과 예술, 이 두 가지가 만나면 어떤 모습일까요? 오랫동안 비어있던 명동의 한 건물에는 스마트팜과 설치미술이 어우러진 특별한 공간이 생겼습니다.
October 27,2023 - What will it look like, agriculture and art, when these two things meet? A special space combining smart farm and installation art has been created in a building in Myeong-dong that has been vacant for a long time.

서울 중구 명동에 위치한 매드베리팜하우스 입니다.
This is Mad Berry Farm House located in Myeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul.

건물 내부로 들어가 보면 자주색 조명 아래 딸기 농사를 짓고 있습니다. 최첨단 LED 기술과 온도,습도 제어 기술을 이용해 도심 한복판에서 농산물을 재배할 수 있는 도심형 인도어팜입니다. 여기까지는 평범한 스마트팜 같지만, 주위를 살펴보면 곳곳에 자리잡은 설치미술 작품들이 눈길을 사로잡습니다.
If you go inside the building, you will see strawberry farming under purple lights. This is an urban indoor farm that allows you to grow agricultural products in the middle of the city using cutting-edge LED technology and temperature and humidity control technology. Up to this point, it seems like an ordinary smart farm, but if you look around, installation art works located here and there are eye-catching.

“가장 바쁜 도심 속에서 미래의 농업이 예술과 함께 숨 쉰다”는 문구와 함께 국내외 현대미술 작가들의 작품이 벽을 따라 이어져 있습니다.

자연 세계를 기계적으로 해석하는 예술가인 윌리엄 데럴이 자연에서 영감을 얻은 작품을 선보입니다. 꽃이 피고 지는 과정, 곡식이 생산되는 과정을 보여주는 작품부터, 폐건축 자재 속에서 피어난 꽃을 형상화한 설치작품도 있습니다.
Along with the phrase, “Future agriculture breathes with art in the busiest city,” works by domestic and foreign contemporary artists line the walls.

William Darrell, an artist who mechanically interprets the natural world, presents works inspired by nature. There are works that show the process of flowers blooming and falling and the process of grain production, as well as installation works that depict flowers blooming inside waste building materials.

뉴욕에서 활동하는 한국인 예술가 박수이 작가도 작품을 선보입니다. 그녀는 주로 산업자재를 활용해서 3차원 유기적 형태를 제작하는데요. 이번에는 플라스틱 케이블 타이를 이용해 해양생물 혹은 곰팡이를 닮은 작품을 만들었습니다

조금은 생소하지만 어울리는 스마트팜과 설치미술. 이를 시작한 메드베리팜의 송영진 대표는 “사실 농업은 사람이 할 수 있는 최고의 예술이라고 믿고 있고, 같이 하게 된 아티스트들도 자연에서, 땅에서 영감을 얻는 그런 작업들을 하는 사람” 이라고 말했습니다.
Park Sui, a Korean artist based in New York, will also be showing her work. She mainly uses industrial materials to create three-dimensional organic forms. This time she used plastic cable ties to create an artwork that resembles marine life or fungi.

Smart farm and installation art are a little unfamiliar but fit together. Song Young-jin, CEO of Medberry Farm, who started this project, said, “I actually believe that agriculture is the best art that people can do, and the artists I work with are people who get inspiration from nature and the land.”

새로운 복합문화공간인 메드베리팜하우스는 오는 11월 정식 개관합니다.
