JYP Entertainment has announced the postponement of its debut project content release for KickFlip, a new boy group set to debut in 2025. The delay comes in response to the recent Jeju Air tragedy at Muan International Airport, which claimed 179 lives.

Originally scheduled for release at midnight on January 1, 2025, the debut content will now be unveiled on January 6 at the same time. JYP stated on December 30, “We have decided to postpone the release of KickFlip’s debut project content to honor the victims of the tragic accident. Should there be additional changes, we will provide further updates. We deeply appreciate fans’ understanding and extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families.”

KickFlip marks JYP Entertainment’s first new boy group in seven years since Stray Kids. The group’s name symbolizes innovation and progress, inspired by the skateboarding trick that flips the board forward. It reflects their ambition to break boundaries and redefine industry norms.

The decision to delay the content aligns with South Korea’s collective mourning period, which spans from December 29 to January 4. The accident occurred when Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, arriving from Bangkok, crashed into the outer wall of Muan International Airport during landing, leading to a catastrophic explosion.

The entertainment industry has responded to the national tragedy with widespread cancellations and schedule adjustments. Major year-end award ceremonies, showcases, and promotional events have been postponed or canceled in a show of respect for the victims. The incident has deeply impacted the nation, prompting artists and companies to prioritize solidarity and empathy.

KickFlip’s delay, while a disappointment for eager fans, has been widely understood as a necessary and respectful gesture. As JYP’s latest venture, the group is expected to represent the next phase of the company’s creative evolution, with anticipation building for their debut despite the delay.
