On the 11th, SM Entertainment issued an official statement regarding its legal actions against defamation, insults, and sexual harassment directed at aespa. The agency emphasized that it has been actively collecting evidence through fan reports and internal monitoring before filing criminal complaints. The charges include insult, defamation, and distribution of manipulated or fabricated media.
According to the agency, several suspects have already been identified and are under investigation. Some cases have been transferred to the prosecution, and certain individuals have received final court rulings.
One notable case involved the distribution of manipulated explicit content via Telegram. The court issued a summary order, resulting in a fine for the accused. The legal charge filed was "Violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (Distribution of Manipulated Media)."
SM Entertainment reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy and vowed to take further legal measures against those spreading malicious posts, videos, and images about aespa, regardless of jurisdiction. The company also stated that it will continue to protect the rights and dignity of its artists.
With cyber harassment becoming an increasing concern in the K-pop industry, agencies have been intensifying efforts to combat defamation and online abuse against their artists.
