The program includes classics by Ralph Vaughan Williams, featuring "Fantasia on Green Sleeves" and "The Lark Ascending." Han's interpretations, reflecting her deep understanding of British sentiment and culture, hold anticipation, especially for "The Lark Ascending," known to the Korean public for its use in Kim Yu-na's figure skating program.
Orchestra The Original, under conductor Adriel Kim, has been pivotal in introducing neoclassical music to Korean audiences. The concert explores Edward Elgar's "Enigma Variations," focusing on No. 8 "W.N." and No. 9 "Nimrod." Max Richter's innovative "Recomposed: Vivaldi — The Four Seasons" provides a contemporary perspective on British classical music.
The evening concludes with the Korean premiere of Eric Coates' "London Suite," a mid-20th century example of British light music. Characterized by lyrical melodies and a light-hearted nature, this piece has been embedded in British culture and featured in events like the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony.
Adriel Kim, the artistic director of Orchestra The Original, known for his creative approach to classical music, will bring a British flair to the podium with a rich and diverse experience. "Han Soo-Jin and the British Original" is scheduled at the Concert Hall of the Seoul Arts Center on Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
