Adaptation of Moliere's Classic Embraces Accessibility and Relaxed Environment for Audiences

The National Theater Company of Korea (NTCK) will stage their production of "Scapin" (Les Fourberies de Scapin) at the Myeongdong Arts Theater from April 12 to May 6. This marks the fourth run of the Korean rendition of French playwright Moliere's classic comedy.

The production aims to foster inclusivity through "open audience" performances, providing a relaxed atmosphere for attendees, particularly those with learning disabilities, autism, or sensory sensitivities. These performances encourage freedom of movement and noise within the audience, with attendees allowed to enter and exit as needed.

To accommodate diverse needs, the venue opens earlier, and seating areas remain lit throughout the show. Attendees are encouraged to bring comfort items such as attachment dolls. Additionally, a relaxation area is available in the theater lobby, and scripts and visual materials are provided for preview.

Accessibility is further enhanced through touch tours, audio guides, and braille materials. Korean Sign Language interpretation, audio descriptions, Korean subtitles, and mobility support will be available during accessibility performances from April 12 to 15. English subtitles will be provided on Thursdays and Sundays, while Korean subtitles will be offered on Mondays and Fridays, excluding April 14.

Under the direction of Im Do-wan, the adaptation of "Scapin" merges mime and movement into a contemporary piece, accompanied by live string instrument performances. Following the April 21 performance, there will be a conversation session with the cast and director.
