Network Issues Mar Fans' Experience Despite Historic Event

SEVENTEEN, a popular K-pop group, achieved a significant milestone on Saturday by becoming the first K-pop act to hold a solo concert at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium, a venue capable of accommodating up to 30,000 spectators.

Excited fans from various parts of the world gathered at the stadium before the concert commenced. However, many encountered unexpected network issues, including difficulties in making phone calls, sending text messages, and accessing the internet.

Numerous attendees expressed frustration on the fan platform Weverse, citing challenges with connectivity throughout the day. Some parents voiced discontent as they struggled to contact their children who were attending the concert.

Criticism was directed towards all three major mobile carriers in Korea—SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus—for allegedly failing to anticipate and manage network congestion during the event.

In response to the backlash, the mobile carriers pledged to improve their preparations for SEVENTEEN's next concert at the same venue on Sunday. Measures included intensive monitoring, installation of temporary communication equipment, and real-time monitoring.

SEVENTEEN, which debuted in 2015, has garnered international acclaim with hits such as "Adore U" and "Don't Wanna Cry." Their album "FML" received the IFPI Global Album Award for 2023, recognizing it as the year's top-selling album worldwide.

Following the concert in Incheon, SEVENTEEN is set to continue their tour in Seoul, Osaka, and Yokohama.
