With the popularity of Dallas Jenkins’ The Chosen: Last Supper trilogy and similar biblical stories proving strong audience demand, Jang’s time-traveling religious epic has arrived at the perfect moment — and it's paying off in a big way.
The King of Kings, which tells the story of author Charles Dickens (voiced by Kenneth Branagh) and his young son traveling back in time to witness the life of Jesus Christ (voiced by Oscar Isaac), has now crossed the $65 million mark globally. The film has earned $59.1 million domestically and an additional $6.8 million internationally.
Domestically, this performance pushes the film ahead of DreamWorks' The Road to El Dorado, and it currently holds the No. 7 spot at the 2025 U.S. box office. However, it may soon be overtaken by The Accountant 2, starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, which continues to perform strongly.
Critically, The King of Kings has also struck a chord. The film holds a stunning 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, among the best for many in its all-star voice cast, including Branagh, Isaac, Uma Thurman, Mark Hamill, Pierce Brosnan, Roman Griffin Davis, Ben Kingsley, and Forest Whitaker. It’s also one of only 128 films in history to receive a perfect A+ CinemaScore — a rare and coveted honor.
