Jeon So Yeon, leader and producer of (G)I-DLE, has spoken candidly about ongoing discussions surrounding her contract renewal with Cube Entertainment. On November 27, a video titled “Addressing Contract Renewal Rumors: Bibim-Pop EP.15 Jeon So Yeon (G)I-DLE” was uploaded to the YouTube channel df, shedding light on her perspective amidst rising speculation.

During the interview, fellow artist Hwang So Yoon cautiously brought up the topic, stating, “It seems you’ve had a significant role at Cube. Deciding to leave must have been a big decision.” Jeon So Yeon immediately clarified, “Me? I’m not leaving. Discussions are ongoing.” She further elaborated, “We’re still figuring things out. The conversations are progressing well.”

Jeon So Yeon emphasized that her priority lies with her group and their creative environment. “My members and I want to work in the best conditions where we can enjoy making music,” she said. Reflecting on her leadership role, she added, “Being both a producer and leader for seven years makes me feel like a mother. My members are like my children and my closest friends. I’m searching for the best way for all of us to thrive together.”

Regarding the timeline for a resolution, Jeon So Yeon expressed a sense of urgency. “I want to wrap this up as soon as possible. Ideally, I’d like to resolve everything before November ends,” she stated, signaling her intent to move forward decisively.

Her comments also addressed previous controversies, including her August performance at the IDOL concert held at KSPO Dome in Seoul. During her solo stage of “Is This Bad B***** Number?”*, she delivered lyrics referencing contract expiration, sparking significant public reaction. “The lyrics weren’t lies. I didn’t think it would become an issue,” Jeon So Yeon explained. “It was a personal performance where I shared my thoughts. I had no idea it would draw this much attention.”

She continued, “In this industry, it’s common to have contracts with clear terms and end dates. I saw it as a natural part of being an artist, not a significant issue.” Jeon So Yeon reiterated her commitment to (G)I-DLE’s future, dismissing any concerns about disbandment. “Our members have faced so much together over the past seven years. We’ll stay close and go far. Neverland, you don’t have to worry.”

At the 2024 MAMA Awards held at Kyocera Dome Osaka on November 23, Jeon So Yeon addressed the contract topic once again during her solo performance. She declared, “Contract expiration or company matters—they don’t dictate me. If they did, I wouldn’t be here.” She reassured fans, stating, “What I want to say is, (G)I-DLE equals forever. Worrying about anything else is pointless.”

Rumors regarding her absence from a group dinner following the awards were quickly dismissed after the group’s official social media posted photos of all members, including Jeon So Yeon, dining together.

As discussions continue, Jeon So Yeon’s transparency and dedication to her group and fans have reassured Neverland. Regardless of contract outcomes, her words reaffirm (G)I-DLE’s enduring bond and shared commitment to their musical journey.
