Rising K-pop sensation NewJeans has achieved yet another major milestone as their hit track Ditto surpassed 700 million plays on Spotify, according to their agency Ador on Friday. This accomplishment mirrors the success of their previous single OMG, which reached the same milestone in August this year.
Ditto, released in December 2022 as a prerelease track from their single album OMG, has been instrumental in catapulting NewJeans to international fame. Despite being a rookie girl group with just six months since their debut at the time, the song made its way onto prestigious global charts, including Billboard’s Hot 100 and the UK’s Official Singles Chart Top 100.
Domestically, the track enjoyed unprecedented popularity, staying at the top of Melon’s daily chart—a dominant South Korean music platform—for a record-breaking 99 consecutive days. The song’s emotive blend of nostalgia and fresh, contemporary beats resonated with a wide audience, solidifying NewJeans as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.
Their continued dominance on streaming platforms like Spotify underscores the group’s global appeal and growing fanbase. The versatility and innovation in their music, combined with a relatable and refreshing image, have earned them a significant foothold in both domestic and international markets.
Meanwhile, the five members of NewJeans flew to Fukuoka, Japan, on Friday to participate in a year-end event for a Korean TV music chart show. Their inclusion in the lineup highlights their prominence not just in Korea but across Asia, as they continue to make waves in the music scene.
NewJeans’ achievements with Ditto and OMG are a testament to their rapid ascent in the competitive K-pop industry. As they move forward with new projects, the group is expected to continue breaking records and expanding their influence worldwide.
