The Cannes Film Festival's 77th edition will include "I, the Executioner" in its Midnight Screenings section.
Directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, the film is a sequel to "Veteran" (2015) and revolves around a crisis within the Violent Crimes Investigation Division led by Detective Seo Do-cheol, portrayed by Hwang Jung-min.
Ryoo's last invitation to Cannes was in 2005 when he won the International Critics' Award for "Crying Fist."
For Hwang Jung-min, this marks his fourth Cannes appearance, following his roles in "A Bittersweet Life" (2005), "The Wailing" (2016), and "The Spy Gone North" (2018).
The Midnight Screening section, known for its blend of artistic and popular genre films, has regularly featured Korean cinema since 2014. However, this year's festival will not include any Korean films in the main competition section. Cannes is scheduled for May 14-25.
