The Storm Petrel Foundation has opened a comprehensive exhibition honoring Joseph Calleia, the renowned Maltese actor whose illustrious career spanning more than three decades left an indelible mark on both stage and screen. The special showcase provides visitors with an unprecedented glimpse into Calleia's extraordinary life, exceptional talent, and unwavering Maltese spirit that defined his artistic journey.
This ambitious exhibition represents a collaborative effort bringing together nine dedicated Maltese collectors, researchers, and enthusiasts, working alongside a German/British collector and art dealer, as well as members of Calleia's own family. Together, these contributors have created a comprehensive tribute to celebrate a man who was recognized not only for his immense theatrical and cinematic talent but also for his remarkable perseverance throughout his career.
Curated by Justine Balzan Demajo, the exhibition features an impressive collection of over 400 items, with many pieces being displayed to the public for the very first time. The presentation offers both a captivating and comprehensive overview of Calleia's multifaceted career, showcasing various aspects of his professional achievements. The exhibition has been enhanced through valuable collaborations with the Rabat and Attard Local Councils, while Malta International Airport serves as the main sponsor for this cultural initiative.
The exhibition will run from November 1st through December 15th, maintaining regular operating hours Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Extended viewing opportunities are available on Wednesdays and Saturdays with additional hours from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The exhibition space will remain closed on Sundays and will also be closed on November 22nd for a private function.
Special programming includes film screenings scheduled every Friday, offering visitors the opportunity to experience Calleia's work on the big screen. Advance booking is required for all film screenings, which can be arranged through the Storm Petrel Foundation's official Facebook and Instagram pages. Additionally, a special recital performance is planned for November 25th, with further details to be announced in the coming weeks.
