Two popular members of the renowned K-pop supergroup NCT, Doyoung and Jungwoo, are preparing to fulfill their mandatory military service obligations together in December. Their entertainment company, SM Entertainment, made the official announcement through Weverse, a popular Korean fan community platform, confirming that both artists will begin their military journey simultaneously.
According to the announcement, both performers will report to the same military boot camp on December 8th to begin their service. The decision for the two bandmates to enlist together demonstrates their close bond and provides mutual support during this significant transition in their careers. SM Entertainment emphasized that there will be no special farewell ceremony held on the day of their enlistment.
Following their initial five-week basic military training program, the two artists will take different paths within the South Korean military system. Doyoung will continue his service as an active-duty soldier in the Army, taking on regular military duties and responsibilities. Meanwhile, Jungwoo will be assigned to serve in a military band, where he can continue to utilize his musical talents while fulfilling his service requirements.
SM Entertainment has specifically requested that fans refrain from visiting the enlistment location for safety and logistical reasons. The company stated that the enlistment site will be crowded with numerous soldiers and their family members, making it potentially unsafe and disruptive for additional visitors to gather at the location.
South Korea maintains a universal conscription system that requires all able-bodied men to complete at least 18 months of military service. This mandatory service is a significant rite of passage for young Korean men and affects all male celebrities and public figures, regardless of their fame or career status.
Both Doyoung and Jungwoo have been integral members of NCT since their respective debuts with the group. Doyoung first joined NCT in 2016, while Jungwoo became a member in 2018. Beyond their work with the main group, the two artists have collaborated closely as part of NCT DoJaeJung, which is a specialized unit within the larger 25-member boy group structure. Their partnership in this subunit has strengthened their professional relationship and friendship, making their joint enlistment a natural choice for both performers.
