XPENG Motors has officially opened its striking new headquarters building in Guangzhou, China, marking a significant milestone for the electric vehicle manufacturer. The architectural project, led by Sun Wei of weico Architects, represents a bold departure from traditional industrial-era corporate buildings, embracing a dynamic design philosophy that reflects the company's vision for intelligent mobility.
The impressive campus is strategically located in the Cencun area of Tianhe Intelligence City in Tianhe District, Guangzhou. Covering a site area of 68,000 square meters with a total gross floor area of approximately 360,000 square meters, the complex serves as headquarters for both XPENG Motors and AeroHT, the company's flying car division. The facility is designed to accommodate up to 13,000 employees and officially began operations in October 2025, with nearly 11,000 employees already occupying the space.
The architectural concept showcases innovative design principles that fully utilize the surrounding environment. Two fluid, large-scale office courtyards are seamlessly connected at the center, while the building mass gracefully leaps upward from south to north toward the distant mountains. This creates a simple yet fluid and integrated volume that breaks away from rigid industrial aesthetics. The design team, including Sun Wei, Sun Mingze, Wang Deyuan, Duan Yun, Sun Chen, Zhou Jingyi, Zhang Lining, Zhao Yue, Zeng Lingyue, and Peng Shijie, collaborated to bring this vision to life.
Beyond standard corporate functions such as offices, research and development, reception areas, and exhibition spaces, the complex integrates core industrial operations including automotive engineering R&D, interior and exterior automotive styling assessment, and new vehicle testing capabilities. The facility represents a truly comprehensive technological hub with a complete industrial ecosystem. Relatively independent facilities located outside the main buildings include an XPENG flagship store, a shared conference center, and remarkably, a flying car takeoff and landing site.
The rooftop features demonstrate the project's commitment to sustainability and innovation, incorporating green photovoltaics, sports facilities, an outdoor aircraft landing platform, and waterfront landscapes. These elements form a rich open space that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding city. The main structure reached its topping-out milestone in September 2024, and the building welcomed its first occupants on October 20, officially entering the commissioning phase.
The project faced significant challenges due to its massive building volume, strict surrounding environmental constraints, and complex functions requiring high technical expertise. The architecture houses not only standard headquarters functions but also highly secure core industrial operations. It simultaneously integrates nearly 20,000 square meters of underground dining facilities, a comprehensive transportation system comparable to an airport's infrastructure, and display, sales, and launch functions designed to cater to different audiences.
The construction team included several specialized consultants and contractors to ensure the project's success. CAPOL International (Shenzhen) Guangzhou Branch served as the Class A Design Institute, while SuP Warner Engineering Consulting (Beijing) Co., Ltd provided facade consulting services. Guangzhou S.P.I Design Co., Ltd handled landscape design, RDI Ruiguoji served as lighting consultant, and CCD (Cheng Chung Design (HK)) managed interior design. China Construction First Group (Corporation) Ltd. acted as the general contractor for this ambitious project.
From the inside out, the XPENG headquarters represents a completely new type of super-complex building cluster that reflects the automotive industry's role as one of the most significant drivers of socio-economic development in contemporary society. Major automobile companies invariably invest considerable effort into the design and construction of their headquarters, and these buildings often become microcosms of society in their respective eras. The XPENG headquarters successfully captures the spirit of the new era of intelligent mobility that humanity is entering, setting a new standard for corporate architecture in the automotive sector.
