According to a recent survey conducted by Consumer Insight, a consumer research institution, 1,064 Korean moviegoers between the ages of 20 and 64 were polled regarding their preferences for watching new films. Results indicated that 37 percent of respondents expressed a preference for watching the latest movies in theaters, while 33 percent stated they only viewed new releases once available on streaming platforms. Additionally, 10 percent reported relying on YouTube creators' reviews or summaries to stay informed about new films.
The majority of those who favored watching new releases in theaters cited the appeal of large-sized screens and immersive sound systems, comprising 63 percent of respondents. Of this group, 41 percent emphasized the theater experience as the sole means to watch a new movie for the first time.

Regarding genre preferences, a notable trend emerged. More respondents indicated a preference for watching sci-fi, action, and fantasy films in theaters compared to streaming platforms. Conversely, genres such as comedy, melodrama, romance, and animation were favored for streaming over theatrical viewing.
These insights shed light on the evolving landscape of movie consumption habits amidst the growing popularity of streaming platforms and the enduring allure of the theatrical experience.
