Watercolor Artist in Sarthe Opens Her Home Studio for Special Autumn Exhibition

Sayart / Nov 15, 2025

Françoise Guyot, a watercolor artist based in Ruillé-sur-Loir in the Sarthe region of France, is hosting an open house exhibition at her home on Sundays, November 16 and 23, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The accomplished watercolorist is showcasing and selling her latest works in what marks a new addition to her annual exhibition schedule.

For the past fifteen years, Guyot has traditionally organized a spring exhibition and studio sale at her residence each year. This autumn, she has decided to expand her exhibition calendar by adding this new fall showcase, giving art enthusiasts another opportunity to discover her work during a different season.

The centerpiece of this year's exhibition features mountain landscape paintings created using a specialized technique called granulation. "I didn't know this technique before – I learned it during a workshop because it's quite a difficult technique," Guyot explained. "It allows you to give relief to the painting; it's very airy and deep at the same time. Watercolors can be transparent or not, granulating or not. You have to know your colors well, which is my case since I've been a watercolorist for 36 years."

The artist specifically chose mountain landscapes because they lend themselves particularly well to the granulation technique. "I collected photos of these landscapes and selected those that could work for granulation. And then I got to work!" she said. This technique represents a new artistic challenge for the experienced painter, demonstrating her continued commitment to expanding her artistic skills even after decades of practice.

Beyond the mountain landscapes, Guyot will also display floral paintings and works in smaller formats. Additionally, she will showcase painted fabric objects that she has created herself, including items painted on linen and cotton. "I do painting on linen, cotton... There will be bags, cushions. These could make good Christmas gift ideas!" she noted, highlighting the practical appeal of her textile artwork.

The exhibition is designed to be accessible to all visitors, with free admission and wheelchair accessibility ensured. This commitment to accessibility reflects the artist's desire to share her work with the broadest possible audience in her community.

The open house will take place at 15 lieu-dit Dauvers in Ruillé-sur-Loir on both Sunday afternoons. Visitors will have the opportunity not only to view Guyot's latest creations but also to purchase original works directly from the artist, making it an ideal opportunity for collectors and gift-seekers alike as the holiday season approaches.
