The Saarland Ministry of Environment has announced the winner of this year's competition for the most beautiful farmhouse in the state. The prestigious award goes to a historic farmhouse built in 1803, located in Osterbrücken in the St. Wendel district.

Every two years, the Saarland Ministry of Environment and Agriculture presents this special award to recognize the most beautiful farmhouse in the region. This year, the 1803 farmhouse in Osterbrücken impressed the judges among seven participating properties. The eleven-member jury praised the winning property for its excellent renovation work carried out with meticulous attention to detail, as well as the consistent preservation of the original architectural style.

The property owners will receive 5,000 euros as the first-place prize in the competition. Second and third place went to farmhouses located in Niedaltdorf and Fremersdorf respectively, with the runners-up receiving 3,500 euros and 1,500 euros in prize money.

The competition is open to owners of farmhouses and rural worker houses that were built before 1914. Newer properties constructed up to 1945 are only eligible if they represent a characteristic building type from their construction period. This ensures that the competition focuses on preserving the most historically and architecturally significant rural structures in the region.

Environment and Agriculture Minister Petra Berg expressed her admiration for the participants, stating that officials were impressed by the passion and financial commitment shown by owners in restoring these historic properties. She emphasized that the awards serve to "honor the extraordinary achievements of the participants while highlighting the importance of preserving our cultural and architectural heritage."

The biennial competition continues to play a vital role in encouraging the preservation of Saarland's rural architectural heritage, recognizing those who invest their time, resources, and dedication into maintaining these important cultural landmarks for future generations.
