Indonesian architecture firm andramatin has completed Loka Meru, a remarkable timber-structured resort chapel and event hall located on the misty slopes of Mount Merbabu in Salatiga, Indonesia. The 750-square-meter project, completed in 2022, represents an extraordinary achievement in sustainable construction and engineering excellence.
Designed by lead architect Andra Matin, the building showcases innovative use of jabon glulam timber throughout its entire structure. What makes this project particularly impressive is that the entire construction was erected manually without the use of heavy machinery, demonstrating how timber construction can be successfully implemented even in remote and challenging terrains. The project required careful planning and skilled craftsmanship to overcome the logistical challenges of building on the mountainous terrain.
The architectural design successfully balances reverence with resilience, creating a structure that serves both as a place of worship and a venue for events.
