The movie's rapid success positions it as the fastest film of the year to reach the 3 million mark, surpassing the achievement set by "The Roundup: No Way Out."

"12.12: The Day" delves into the historical backdrop of the Dec. 12, 1979 coup d'état, marking the end of a brief period of democratization following the assassination of former President Park Chung Hee.

Featuring characters based on real historical figures, the film stars Hwang Jung-min as Chun Doo-kwang, a portrayal inspired by former President Chun Doo Hwan. Key roles are also played by Jung Woo-sung, Lee Sung-min, Park Hae-joon, and Kim Sung-kyun, under the direction of Kim Sung-su, known for acclaimed films such as "Beat" (1997), "Musa" (2001), and "Asura: The City of Madness" (2016).
