The Museum of the Grand Century in Saint-Cloud has recently acquired a third still life painting to add to its growing collection, following two previous acquisitions made in 2022. The latest addition is a remarkable work by Jacques Samuel Bernard, titled "Vase of Flowers on a Stone Entablature," which was signed and dated by the artist in 1657.

The museum had previously enriched its still life collection with two significant acquisitions during 2022. The first painting was generously donated by the La Marck Foundation, while the second work by Renaud Levieux was purchased at auction by the Museum's Friends Association. These earlier acquisitions demonstrated the institution's commitment to building a comprehensive collection of period artwork.

The newly acquired painting by Jacques Samuel Bernard (circa 1615-1687) depicts an elegant arrangement of flowers in a vase positioned on a stone entablature. Executed in oil on canvas, the artwork measures 84.2 by 64 centimeters and represents a fine example of 17th-century French still life painting. The work showcases the artistic traditions and techniques that flourished during France's Grand Century period.

The acquisition comes at a particularly exciting time for the future museum, as construction progress has been described as remarkable by recent visitors to the building site. The ongoing development represents a significant cultural investment for the Saint-Cloud area and will provide an important venue for displaying France's artistic heritage from the Grand Century period.

This latest addition strengthens the museum's ability to present a comprehensive view of still life painting from the era, offering future visitors the opportunity to appreciate the evolution and diversity of this important artistic genre during one of France's most culturally significant historical periods.
