The Korean animated feature film "Your Letter" has reached a significant milestone by securing international distribution deals and pre-sales agreements across 166 countries worldwide. Lotte Entertainment, the film's distributor, announced this achievement on Monday, highlighting the movie's remarkable global appeal and commercial success.
The extensive list of countries where the film has been pre-sold includes major markets such as Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. This broad international reach demonstrates the film's cross-cultural appeal and the growing global interest in Korean animated content. The movie's international rollout has already begun, with Vietnam leading the way on October 10th.
Following Vietnam's release, the film will continue its global expansion with Indonesia on October 22nd, Malaysia on October 23rd, and both Singapore and Thailand on October 30th. According to Lotte Entertainment, North American audiences will have the opportunity to experience the film in early 2026, marking another significant step in its worldwide distribution strategy.
"Your Letter" tells the compelling story of So-ri, a transfer student who makes an unexpected discovery when she finds a mysterious letter hidden in her desk drawer. Intrigued by the contents of this first letter, So-ri follows the clues and hints it contains, embarking on an emotional journey to locate and uncover the subsequent messages in what becomes a deeply personal adventure.
The animated feature has garnered significant attention partly due to the involvement of Lee Su-hyun, one half of the popular K-pop duo AKMU. Lee Su-hyun not only provided the voice for the main character So-ri but also contributed her vocal talents to the film's soundtrack, adding musical depth to the storytelling experience.
The film's quality and artistic merit have been recognized on the international festival circuit, earning acclaim at prestigious events including the Ottawa International Animation Festival, Canada's premier annual celebration of animated cinema. This recognition has helped establish the movie's credibility within the global animation community.
Since its domestic release in South Korea on October 1st, "Your Letter" has demonstrated strong commercial performance, attracting over 200,000 viewers to theaters. The film has received consistently positive responses from Korean audiences, indicating its potential for continued success both domestically and internationally.
The success extends beyond the film itself to related merchandise and media. The book version of the original webtoon that inspired the animated adaptation achieved notable commercial success, topping the comics category on Kyobo Book Centre's bestseller list during the second week of October.
The original webtoon, created by Cho Hyun-ah, has particularly resonated with female readers due to its gentle artwork and emotionally touching storyline. According to data from the bookstore chain, women comprised 78.4 percent of purchasers, with the largest demographic being women in their twenties at 25.7 percent, followed closely by women in their forties at 24.2 percent. This demographic success suggests the story's universal themes of discovery, connection, and personal growth appeal strongly to diverse age groups, positioning "Your Letter" as a significant achievement in Korean animation's global expansion.
