Sayart / Sep 17, 2025

One year after the tragic death of renowned photographer Yan Morvan, Galerie Sit Down is partnering with the Yan Morvan Archives to present a tribute exhibition running from Thursday, September 25th through Saturday, September 27th. The exhibition celebrates the work of the acclaimed photojournalist who documented conflict zones and social tensions around the world.

The showcase centers around publications from the Yan Morvan Archives, a unique editorial project that has already produced more than twenty volumes of the photographer's work. The exhibition will feature a preview selection of images from "Freedom, Northern Ireland (1981)," a special issue dedicated to the funeral of Bobby Sands. This rare collection includes color photographs taken before and after the historic events, providing context for one of the most significant human and political episodes of the past fifty years.

Alongside the Northern Ireland series, visitors will see several Cibachrome prints from Morvan's celebrated series "The Green Line," which will be the next volume in the archive collection. These chamber-format photographs were taken in 1985 along the demarcation line that divided Beirut in two during Lebanon's civil war. The powerful images capture the physical and psychological barriers that separated the Lebanese capital.

The tribute exhibition aims to preserve and continue Morvan's radical and just perspective on world events. Through a combination of image displays and complete presentations of his publications, the show offers visitors a deep dive into a body of work that documents the fracture lines of the contemporary world. The commemoration seeks to support the ongoing life of an archive collection that has become indispensable to understanding recent history.

The opening reception will take place on Thursday, September 25th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The event will be attended by Balthazar, Colin and François Morvan, as well as Quentin Euverte, the editor of the Yan Morvan Archives. The tribute exhibition will be open to the public on Thursday September 25th, Friday September 26th, and Saturday September 27th, 2025, at Galerie Sit Down, located at 4 rue Sainte Anastase in Paris's 3rd arrondissement. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with appointments available upon request.
